Links 2003 Black Screen

There are a few different reasons you could get a black screen on start up.

If you're running Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1:
- Browse to your Links 2003 folder and right click on LinksMMIII.exe and Choose Properties
- Select the Compatibility tab
- Check "Run this program as an administrator"
- Check "Run this program in compability mode for" and choose Windows XP (Service Pack 3)
- Repeat the above steps for LinksLauncher.exe
These failures to launch often seem to be associated with playback of the introductory video. If you suspect this is the case, just eject the CD before launching the game. This will skip the intro video playback. If that works, it is recommended that you update your Windows Media Player and the Windows Media Player Codecs.
The personal firewall software such as Zone Alarm or the Windows Firewall can also causes a black screen when you launch Links. You'll need to allow LinksMMIII.exe access through your firewall.
Video driver incompatibility, sound card driver incompatibility, or other programs running in the background on your computer cause most other black screen errors. As with other unexplained game errors, the steps outlined in the TROUBLE document (in the Links 2003 folder) should help you to isolate the cause.
